Environmental Hazards

By: Ernie Fitzpatrick
Several recent movies have depicted the scenario that we humans need to be destroyed in order to save the planet. Say what! When you look around though, it becomes evident that we're not very friendly to the plant. We're destroying the rain forests, depleting non-renewable resources, polluting the oceans, and corrupting the very air that gives us life.

And then there's the BAD NEWS! We're creating spiritual environmental hazards!

Certain plants can only grow in specific climates. One doesn't find peach trees in northern Canada, nor do watermelons do very well in Siberia. Get the picture? In like fashion the geographical location in which you were born has a great determining factor on which religion you embrace. Being born in India gives one difficult odds of being a Baptist or Presbyterian. We all know that a birth in the mountains of Tibet hinders one from embracing Judaism.

But, let's bring the spiritual map a little closer to home.

The denomination that you choose within the territories of Christiandom affects what KIND of a Christian you will likely be. But bringing the picture a little tighter and closer, there are communities within denominations that differ greatly. One community of a denomination can emphasize grace while another law. One can believe in once saved always saved while another believes ALL are saved. One can interpret the Bible literally while the other more historical-metaphorically. Whichever one you happen to reside in to a large degree impacts your life either positively or negatively.

So, is the

community within which you worship an environmental hazard to your life on one where love, mercy, forgiveness, and encouragements in the Christos prevails. Sometimes a toxic environment can be very hard to validate, but since your life is dependent upon such, it seems reasonable that you should make that a priority!.

Think maybe?  :-)

As a spiritual-futurist, I have a BA degree majoring in history. One cannot know the future without knowing the past which holds clues to what is on the horizon. The world is in such a rapid expansion of knowledge that we are close to entering a tipping point that will forever change earth as we know it.
