Once you have decided you want to plant a fruit tree in your backyard you will need to first make a place for it. In addition, once you are ready to get the plant from the nursery be careful while bringing the same as there are chances that they can break in transportation.
Once the tree is safely, in the backyard, you would want to see how big the roots are and you will need to dig the hole twice as big and broad for the tree to rest properly. If the hole you make is very big, you will have lots of mud, which you will not know what to do with it so just dig how much is required.
After you have dug up add fertilizer to the soil and then plant the tree. Once you put the tree in the whole try and spread the roots into the hole so that the tree can stand erect and become strong and steady. The tree is in its place, see that you tree is complete straight and then only fill the hole. Put all the soil you had dug up into the hole to cover it completely and carefully so there is no loose soil in the hole otherwise you tree will have a slant on one side. If the tree is not completely straight then you can use a stake or a small rope to straighten it. The stakes are used for the tree to stand straight and will not fall of in the strong winds. Once the tree is strong, remove the stake as the tree can grow.
If you are in a place where wild life roams in the night try to fence the tree to avoid some of the animals from eating the bark of your tree. After the tree is 4 to 5 years, old it will start bearing fruits and the tree may not be able to take the load of fruits. Try to pick some of the ripe fruits from time to time so that the tree does not weigh down due to heavy fruits.
If the tree does not bear fruit one year you should not be worried as some of the trees do not bear fruits every year and if you tree is healthy it will bear the fruits the other year.
The pests are the other problems faced by the tree owners you need to spray pesticides and try to keep the area around the tree so that the pests do not have place to hide.
The tree should be trimmed every year at least once to keep it healthy and in the summers water it regularly. Try not to hit the tree with anything, as this will stop the growth of the tree.
Also, make sure that the tree is getting lots of sun and water and the tree will grow to be a very healthy tree and will make you a proud owner of a fruit tree.
